Within the Future Heirloom Project, seven Turkish designers were selected via an open call. The selected designers were invited to design objects made out of American hardwoods that fully encapsulates the themes of sustainability, longevity and quality to be handed down through generations. The objects will be exhibited at The Circle Space, Istanbul between 7-30 September 2023.

Selected designers regularly received consultation and supervision from Yonga Mobilya throughout the design development and manufacturing process.

Turkish designers who have contributed to the design culture under 40 years old were invited to apply.

Who Should Apply?

● Individual applications are open to Turkish Citizens. Team applications should have at least one Turkish Citizen.

● It is possible to apply individually or as a team or studio. In team or studio applications, one of the members should be designated as the team representative in order to lead the communication with The Circle.

● Individual participants and at least one of the team members must have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in industrial design, product design, interior design or architecture from a university in Turkey or abroad or the applicants who have proven their credentials as a designer.

● Participants must not be older than the age of 40.

● All individual applicants and teams must have created / completed at least one work that fulfills the requirements below.

Preconditions: 

Applicants are required to have created / completed at least one work that contributes to the design culture and fulfills the requirements explained below. This work can be in any one of the following formats:

  • Created a piece of furniture (outdoor-indoor), functional objects– that has been published on a national or international platform.

  • A product design project– that has received recognition in a national or international competition.

  • An artistic production that contributes to the culture of design, that has been published or exhibited on a national or international platform.

  • Designers demonstrating their experience in production processes and use of different materials.

How To Apply?

Future Heirlooms Jury will evaluate the overall production of applicants based on their portfolios, CV, and ‘Design Proposal Documents’ incorporating sketch ideas for the object they would like to create. These ideas do not need to be final or necessarily the finished idea, but showing intentions and the approach they may take. Ideas can be represented by hand sketches or/and digital renderings and the Document should be max A3 size and no longer than 10 pages.

The "Application Package" will include:

01 Portfolio and CV(s),

02 Design Proposal Document

03 Additional Documentation (for studio applications)
